Soaking tubs belong to the category of most popular tubes; relatively modest, with nothing to offer but depth and suitability. But isn’t depth what many of us expect from their tubs? Aren’t we supposed to soak inside after a stressful day? Besides, soaking tubs can stand alone; or be installed like alcove or drop-in tubs. It all depends on the space you have available.
Just think of a clawfoot tub, which can bring you back to Victorian times with all their opulence and royal glossiness. Such an option may seem to many of us quite obsolete and old fashioned, but this tub creates a very elegant general look. It also goes without saying that finish and fixtures of the feet are only up to you.
Composite tub materials are in fact the American Standard’s Americas products and Bootzcast (Bootz industries). These composite materials are specially engineered to form the backing of a tub, whose surface is afterwards enameled to look glossy and smooth. The reason why these materials are being produced is to provide the same durability and heat retention as iron, without making the tub too heavy. Most of the time, composite tubes weight 1/3 of their cast iron counterparts, which is something you should remember if moving some time soon.
Tubs can also be made of fiberglass (reinforced plastic), ideally covered with a material known as ‘gelcoat’. Due to its flexibility, this material can be shaped easily, which is exactly why it is the favorite choice for making whirlpool and airy tubs. The gelcoat, on the other hand, enriches its appearance; and it creates a smooth, shiny surface that is easy to clean and maintain. As flexible as it is, this material is prone to scratches and cracks.
Designing a bathroom for the modern family, busy and chaotic as they are, requires careful planning because getting the balance right is tricky. If you focus too much on the little ones’ needs, grumpy adults will have to shower hunched over among an army of rubber ducks, and if you focus too little on the children, they won’t be able to reach anything, or worse, they’ll hurt themselves trying.
